Reflection

Today we honor Mary. We sing, “Gentle woman, you were chosen by the Father, chosen
for the Son…” We, too, were chosen. Chosen before the world was begun. We look at our
broken, wounded world and might feel helpless. But we are not! We were chosen, singled
out, made special. We have much in common with our sister, Mary. She had a unique role
to play. We, too, are given our particular part to play to make our world a place of beauty.
Imagine! Before the world was created, before time came to be, we were in the mind of
God. We were chosen. We were created in the image of God and exist for the glory of God.
Watch out for that angel who is coming. Be ready and remember you were chosen. Be not
afraid when the angel comes. Like Mary, with trust say, “I am the handmaid of the Lord. I
delight in being chosen. Let it be.”

Prayer

With St. Ignatius of Loyola we pray:
Take, Lord, receive all my liberty, my memory, my understanding, and my entire will. All I have and call my own. You have given all to me. To you, Lord, I return it. Everything is yours. Do with it what you will. Give me only your love and your grace. That is enough for me. With Mary, we pray, “Let it be done unto me according to your word.”

Personal Challenge

Welcome the angel who will visit you today. Then, like Mary, go in haste to wherever the angel says. Remember you are chosen to bring love to our world.
