Congregation of St. Joseph Grieves, Releases Statement Regarding Parkland Tragedy

The Congregation of St. Joseph is moved by deep love and compassion as we experience the incomprehensible suffering of the families, witnesses, and first responders in Parkland, Florida. We join in prayer with them and with all who are affected by the violence and the lost sense of safety in our schools. Though we acknowledge the importance of prayer, this alone is not enough.

Called by the Gospel Mission of Inclusive Love and Unity, the Sisters of St. Joseph and Associates live and work to promote a culture of love of God and neighbor without distinction. We join others who are outraged at a culture that promotes hatred, violence and fear. Our commitment compels us to risk our lives and resources to collaborate with others to transform systems of division and violence which prevent love of neighbor from flourishing.

Strong in this commitment, we stand in solidarity with the high school students, their families, and others calling Congress to enact legislation for gun control. We further call for support services to address needs of those who suffer from emotional, psychological and mental challenges.

We encourage others to join in advocating for these necessary changes in legislation to prevent violence against all children in this nation.
