Reflection

The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light! Is. 9:1-6

Sing to the Lord a new song; sing to the Lord all you lands. Sing to the Lord, bless his name; announce his salvation day after day. Ps. 96 1-3

The grace of God has appeared saving all and training us to reject godless ways and worldly desires. Ti 2: 11-14

Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace to those on whom His favor rests Lk 2 :13

As I prayed over today’s readings, I immediately recalled how important light is needed especially in order to find something of importance that has been lost in darkness. What joy follows when the object is found! In Isaiah, we read of people who walked in darkness and dwelt in the land of gloom. Upon them a light shone which was to bring them abundant joy and great rejoicing. Isn’t it true within our own lives? Each of us may experience what appears to be darkness such as sickness, loss of a loved one or something that makes us feel entrapped. With God’s help and through prayer we may find the Light of Christ that enables us to live devoutly and thus eager to do good for the love of God dwells in our heart. As we spread God’s light to others, we can truly “sing to the Lord a new song” remembering that He is Wonder Counselor, God-Hero, Father Forever, Prince of Peace. His dominion is vast, peaceful and will last forever. As we celebrate this beautiful feast of Christmas, let us praise God as we recite together “GLORY TO GOD IN THE HIGHEST AND ON EARTH PEACE TO THOSE ON WHOM HIS FAVOR RESTS!”

Prayer

Dear Jesus, sometimes it appears your light has been dimmed in a world that seems to live consumed by worldly desires. May your light continue to shine forth through the efforts of those who seek to bring about your message of love and forgiveness by their prayer and active involvement.

Personal Challenge

I will strive to deepen my own faith so that I may bring your light of peace and love to all those whom I encounter.
