Nuns on the Bus Visits Spark Excitement and Awareness

Sister Simone Campbell, SSS, Executive Director of NETWORK speaks to the media
in front of St. Augustine Catholic Church in Cleveland, Ohio, June 26, 2012.
The Nuns on the Bus tour which began on June 18 in Iowa, recently rolled into several midwest cities where our Sisters of St. Joseph live and work, including Cincinnati, Chicago, Detroit and Cleveland. Everywhere they travel, the "bus nuns" are met with crowds of supporters, media, and of course, our sisters and associates who greet and welcome them.

The tour, officially called, "Nuns on the Bus: Nuns Drive for Faith, Family and Fairness," was conceived by NETWORK, a Catholic social justice lobby based in Washington DC. The purpose of the multi-state tour is to highlight the work sisters do to meet the needs of people at the economic margins and to bring awareness to how federal budget cuts proposed in the Ryan Budget and passed by the House of Representatives, will hurt struggling families in these and other states.
