| Thanks to the efforts of associates,
sisters and employees from the LaGrange Park Center, more than 150 pounds of peanut butter and more than100 pairs of warm and
cozy brand-new socks stocked the shelves of Chicago’s St. James Food Pantry in
time for Christmas.
Sister Kathy
Sherman, who originated the, ‘Butter ‘em up and Sock it to ‘em’ appeal, delights
in the love that poured forth for people who are disadvantaged. And knowing the items are going to one of the finest food pantries
in Chicago – in fact, President Obama visited there in 2006 – is also
encouraging. “It is so fun to do, and heartwarming,” she says. “We even
received 16 handmade lap blankets for seniors from one of Sister Pat Bergen’s
former students!”
Plans for an even
bigger drive are in the works for next year, according to Sister Kathy. We are
already planning better ways to promote the effort to potential donors.
