Over 250 dedicated volunteers, sisters, associates, and staff gathered at Mount St. Joseph, in Wheeling, West Virginia, on Sunday, November 4, 2012, to host the 24th Annual Spaghetti Dinner and Craft Sale. Nearly 800 dinners were served in the dining room and another 350 orders were made to-go.

The preparation began months earlier as sponsors, donors, and volunteers signed on to help. Nearly 4,000 homemade meatballs, 240 pounds of spaghetti, 200 pounds of sausage and 135 gallons of sauce were readied in the days leading up to the dinner. The sausage was a new addition this year. It was prepared by volunteers, including local United Way Director, George Smoulder. The famous recipe belonged to his deceased father-in-law Lou Costanzo.
Volunteers served as traffic directors, servers, ticket sellers, hostesses, greeters, cooks, cleaners, dishwashers, crafters, and more and included a large number of students from the Key Clubs of Bishop Donahue High School, The Linsly School, Wheeling Central Catholic High School, and Wheeling Park High School. In addition, students from Bethany College and Wheeling Jesuit University provided assistance, as did the young men of Boy Scout Troop #5. The Knights of Columbus from Corpus Christi Parish in Wheeling manned the parking lots throughout the day. Shuttle service was provided by Altmeyer Funeral Homes and Good Shepherd Nursing Home.

| The crafts and homemade food items for sale were made by Sisters Rosalie Bucci, Kathleen Durkin, Mary Alice Girrens, Marguerite O’Brien, Mary Ann Rosenbaum, Joan Singer, Gabriella Wagner and a few of their families and friends. Beautiful photographs, table linens, ornaments and food items, including Sister Rosalie’s special spaghetti sauce and many other goodies made from fruits and vegetables grown right on the property, were offered for sale. Sister Gabriella, who is 94, worked all year to create her handcrafted stuffed animals and toys. She has been making the stuffed animals, including teddy bears, since the 1970s. This year, Sister Gabriella made her 650th teddy bear from the same pattern.
All proceeds from the dinner and craft sale benefit the operating fund of Mount St. Joseph. The total raised this year is over $28,000, which is an increase of nearly $2,000 over last year.
We are so very appreciative of the generosity of all of our volunteers and staff, as well as the numerous businesses and individuals who sponsored our event. These include our:
