Most of her ministry in her early years was teaching in Catholic schools in Indiana including South Bend, Wabash, Lebanon, Tipton, Kokomo and Crawfordsville as well as several years at St. Joseph Academy in Tipton, Indiana. Sister Julia transitioned from teaching to social work and ministered in Cincinnati, Ohio. She also served as Coordinator of the Office of Evangelization for the Archdiocese of Indianapolis, Indiana. Currently, Sister Julia lives at St. Joseph Center and relishes a deep theological conversation and still engages in evangelization in her unique way.
Sister Helen Travis, CSJ 60 Years
Sister Helen entered religious life July 2, 1950. Teaching was her ministry for decades throughout parochial schools in Indiana including Kokomo, Tipton, Delphi and Crawfordsville. After receiving training in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Sister Helen specialized in the Montessori Method of teaching by which she motivated children for many years. She also served as a Pastoral Associate, and served on the Leadership Team in Tipton. Currently, Sister Helen is in the House Coordinator for the sisters at St. Joseph Center.
Sister Danielle Garst, CSJ 50 Years
Sister Danielle entered religious life August 15, 1960 and began teaching in numerous Indiana Catholic schools: Kentland, Kokomo, Yoder, Tipton and Hartford City as well as Indianapolis and Seymour. Following her ministry of teaching, Sister Danielle served with the Sisters of Divine Providence in Terre Haute, Indiana in various positions, including elder care, museum guide and receptionist. Currently, she serves as a member of the House Team at St. Joseph Center helping with liturgy, appointments and various other vital works on behalf of the sisters. Sister Danielle enjoys socializing with sisters and guests, plays an intense game of Scrabble and is always ready to listen to anyone.
Sister Jane Frances Mannion, CSJ 50 Years
Sister Jane entered religious life February 3, 1960. She taught in Catholic schools in Indiana including Portland, South Bend, Tipton, Carmel, Marion and Kokomo. She also served as Principal for several years. After leaving the teaching ministry, Sister Jane Frances embraced the ministry of Pastoral Care at St. Joseph Hospital in Kokomo, Indiana. She served as Pastoral Associate at Immaculate Heart of Mary and St. Luke the Evangelist Parishes in Indianapolis. During many of these same years, she served on the Leadership Team in Tipton. Currently, Sister Jane Frances is ‘retired’ and discerning where God will lead her now.
